What is Compression Moulding?

It is a manufacturing process where a heated material is put into a mould and then compressed, to make a range of parts. In this process, a pre-ordered quantity of material known as a charge is put into a heated hollow mould cavity. Finally, the mold closes on the material and the material is subjected to high pressure. Material flows take place, and it takes the shape of the mold cavity. Lastly, after material has been cured and it has cooled, the mold is opened, and the finished part is ejected.

We are the leading compression mould manufacturer in India and also providing the custom compression moulds supplier facilities for your better experience.

Key Characteristics of Compression Moulding:

  • Material Usage: Most normally applied to thermoset plastics, however, it can be used for some thermoplastics, rubbers, and/or composites.

  • Mould Design: Compression moulds – compression moulding dies differ in size and shape and are usually press-resistant that’s why they are made from steel or aluminum.

  • Applications: Used to mint big, flat, or moderately curved parts such as vehicle parts, electrical boxes, utensils, and other products. For hollow or complex-shaped products, Blow Moulding offers a specialized approach.

Advantages of Compression Moulding:

  • Cost-Effective for Large Parts: Cheaper in manufacture of large parts and has lower tooling than other moulding processes.

  • Minimal Material Waste: Strength: Cost effective especially in the use of material with minimal wastage.

  • High Strength and Durability: Some of the parts that are made by using compression moulding especially those which are made through the compression moulding dies have very high and high tensile strength and are well suited for heavy duty applications.

Steps in Compression Moulding:

  • Preheating the Mould: Temperature on the mould is regulated to the desired level.

  • Placing the Charge: In this process, a specific quantity of material is prepared in the mould cavity before the next cycle begins.

  • Closing the Mould: Finally, to form the mould and let the material flow it is closed, pressure is then applied to the material.

  • Curing and Cooling: After the material has been coated, it is left to cure and cool but with the pressure continued to be applied.

  • Opening the Mould: The mould is then opened and the actual finished part is ready for use or for finishing off.

Here are some products as follows:

  • Compression Closures Mould: These are specifically for making closures made of plastic by compressing them.

  • Change Parts: Often removable and replaceable parts; so the tooling or even the mould to make the different part or size will have them as close together as possible to save time and increment the efficiency.

  • Spare parts are essential components used to maintain and repair compression moulds. These parts allow the smooth and efficient running of the moulding process, thus increasing the lifespan of the moulds and decreasing their down time.
